Why Should You Use Custom Paper

Custom food paper is used for various purposes, mainly to present the food in a professional way. There are multiple types of papers, and each is used for a different purpose. The customization allows you to get the paper in the dimensions and design of your choice. Due to advancements in technology, you can now avail of different designs of paper with different coatings.

Aside from this, the use of custom printed wax papers wholesale can be a marvelous promotional tool that will help you in getting the maximum attention of the customers and obviously to create a distinction for your brand from the competitors. As one of the most popular companies in the USA, we take pride in giving papers that are manufactured with the best and most advanced processes.

Manufacturing Process

When it comes to the manufacturing of paper, we take pride in the technical skills of our team and the avant-garde nature of our manufacturing facilities. To ensure that the customers never get a substandard quality of paper. Our flawless manufacturing processes are as follows:

Pulping

The production process of the paper begins with pulping, both chemical and mechanical. In mechanical pulping, the wood chips are beaten to release the cellulose fibres from the lignin. In contrast to this, in chemical pulping, the wood chips are cooked with chemicals such as lignin and cellulose. In pulping, the kraft process is the dominant method in which sodium sulphide is added to wood chips, which dissolves lignin, and strong pulp fibres are produced that are perfect for heavyweight papers such as butcher paper

Bleaching And Refining

To give colored custom wax paper for restaurants, we have to treat the paper with bleaching agents such as oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, both are totally free from chlorine. We also treat the paper with chlorine dioxide, which is free of elemental chlorine and releases minimal chlorinated byproducts. The bleached fibres are then beaten to fibrillate fibres and enhance the bonding and strength of the paper.

Forming And Drying

Refined slurry is spread onto a moving mesh that drains water due to gravity and vacuum, this mesh is called a fourdrinier or cylinder. The wet web is spread to remove additional moisture and is then passed through heated cylinders.

Calendering

When we have to use the paper in uncoated form, such as greaseproof paper, then we have to pass the pulp through a process called calendaring. This process is done to improve the surface properties of the paper. In this process, we pass the paper through a series of rollers called calendars that compress the paper and make it smoother as well as glossier, and give the paper a uniform thickness. Pressure and heat are applied to the paper to align the fibres and reduce surface roughness.

If you need printed custom wax paper for food, then the process of calendering holds a lot of significance. This is because it gives high surface properties to the paper and makes it easy to print. There are two types of calendaring, and we choose based on the specific results required by the customers.

  • Soft Nip Calendering: In this, we use one soft and one hard roller
  • Hard Nip Calendering: Hard nip calendering uses two hard rollers and gives a more refined look.

Surface Sizing

During the manufacturing process of custom wax paper bags or sheets, we add sizing agents and water repellents. These again are added to reduce the porosity of the paper and ink absorption. The two commonly used sizing agents are starches and rosin.

Based on the nature of the paper, the type of chemicals, and the  sizing added are different, such as:

Parchment Paper

Parchment paper undergoes a parchmentizing process that transforms the base of the paper into grease and moisture resistance. The pulp is immersed in dilute sulphuric acid that causes cellulose gelling and ultimately strengthens the fibre bond and produces a translucent non-stick surface.

Greaseproof Paper

Greaseproof paper is manufactured by intensive refining to collapse the fibre pores. The process is supplemented by chlorination or emulsifier treatment. Aside from this, sometimes sizing agents are also added to the paper that further enhance the moisture and grease resistance of the paper.

Butcher Paper

In butcher paper, surface sizing is done with animal drive gelatins and rosin emulsifiers. They both give a balance of strength and moisture resistance to the paper. Sometimes calcium carbonate is also added to adjust the stiffness and opacity of the meat paper

 Wax Paper

Wax paper is manufactured by the treatment of paper with paraffin or beeswax. This coating is also emulsified with nonionic surfactants to enhance grease resistance.  One thing that hinders most brands from investing in wax-coated paper is that it is difficult to recycle. However, with the use of water-soluble emulsifiers, wax can be melted and dispersed into the pulper.

Deli Paper

Deli paper is a thin paper sheet and is treated with no or minimal amount of sizing agents. The natural barrier of the paper is enough to wrap deli foods. However, if someone wants a high resistance paper, then silicone coating is applied to improve release and moisture resistance.

Glassine

Glassine paper is a bleached and lignin-free paper that undergoes extreme calendaring to refine its surface and make it super smooth. This is a translucent paper and sometimes treated with calcium carbonate.

Kraft Paper

Kraft paper is a direct product of the kraft process and does not undergo pulping. This is a naturally brown paper and is treated with sodium hydroxide and sodium sulphate to reduce lignin and increase cellulose fibres. Sometimes, minimal bleaching can be done till the oxygen state for light-duty kraft paper

Printing Process And Inks For Custom Papers

For custom printed wax paper, we use different printing processes that give a unique and attractive look not only to the paper but to your food presentation. We use an advanced and efficient manufacturing process that gives the fastest turnaround time and reduces energy consumption. The common processes for printing are mentioned below:

  • Flexography
  • Screen printing
  • Gravure printing
  • Digital printing
  • Offset printing

The selection of printing inks plays a significant role in the appearance and food-grade nature of custom wax papers. We use only those inks that meet strict food regulations and ensure that no harmful chemicals migrate to the food. We use the inks based on their compatibility with the paper and the printing process.

Printing Method Ink Type Used Suitable Paper Types
Flexography Water- or solvent-based inks Kraft, wax, deli, greaseproof
Offset printing Oil-based or UV-curable inks Butcher, coated, parchment
Gravure Solvent-based inks High-volume wax/deli papers
Digital Water-based pigment inks Short-run custom labels or wrappers
