Following artwork guidelines is important to designing packaging that reflects product image and resonates with the brand. Here are some of our recommendations for designing packaging to ensure promising results.
It is important to pick the relevant colour mode to ensure consistency and accuracy. In printing, we use CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black), Pantone Matching System (PMS) and RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) which is commonly used for digital displays, colour modes to print stunning artworks or designs on packaging.
Using the right colour modes (CMYK for printing and RGB for display) ensures the best imaginable results in colour constancy and printing accuracy.
Making the text or words printed on packaging easy to read is a good practice. So, it is important to review text with multiple font sizes with the suggestion of making the font bigger by zooming your computer screen for better size selection (this is temporary and only affects the computer display, not the actual font size).
It is recommended to use font size 9pt or above like 10, 11 or 12 (pt), for better readability of the printed text. Additionally, once you print the is fixed and having any selection of inappropriate font makes the printed text hard to read, which can’t change later as easily as you selected.
Remember, the use of stylish, fancy, and font with thin strokes is very complex to read. So, again consider all the legibilities and recommendations while selecting the font size.
Use the artwork resolution of 300 dots per inch (DPI) to ensure clear and vibrant print results. This allows the artwork to be captured at close range and can be reproduced sharply. Alternatively, lower resolution results in printing fadiness and blurriness.
The artwork file you provide must be in print-ready formats such as PDF, TIFF, or EPS and must also be high in resolution. These files contain more pixels which results in sharper and brighter images.
For designs including photos and non-vector elements, you can submit them as JPEG or PNG, but a minimum of 300 DPI in resolution for optimal results.
Organization of files in the editor is essential to avoid confusion and misconceptions. Setting up the order of the files, creating separate layers, and naming them properly helps to understand what you are actually doing and also are very promising during printing.
